Arizona is a diverse state with many different animals. This podcast consists of short episodes discussing some of the wildlife and wildlife-related issues found in the state.

A new episode of this podcast will be available every two weeks.

Each episode can be downloaded as an mp3 file. In addition, supplemental material is provided. At the very least, a transcript of the episode will be included. There may also be educational activities, readings, or web links that will allow you, your students, or your children the opportunity to explore this topic in more depth.

Even if you don't have an iPod or other MP3 player, you don't have to worry. The audio files can be downloaded and played on any standard audio player.

Episode 1: Arizona's Diversity

The first seven episodes of this podcast will consist of small discussions that took place during the 2008 National Envirothon competition training day in Flagstaff on July 29, 2008.

This first one focuses on the amazing diversity of habitats and wildlife found in Arizona. Sam Huselton, a Department educator, will provide a brief overview of the biotic communities. This will be followed by a discussion of some of the ways the animals in Arizona have adapted to live in these different habitats.

Episode 2: Invasive Species

The first seven episodes of this podcast will consist of small discussions that took place during the 2008 National Envirothon competition training day in Flagstaff on July 29, 2008.

The second episode in this series focuses on the invasive species and the problems they cause to Arizona's ecosystems. Eric Proctor, a Department educator, will provide the primary content for this episode.

Episode 3: Threatened and Endangered Species

The first seven episodes of this podcast will consist of small discussions that took place during the 2008 National Envirothon competition training day in Flagstaff on July 29, 2008.

The third episode in this series focuses on threatened and endangered species and the efforts that the Arizona Game and Fish Department are doing to help these animals. Kellie Tharp, a Department educator, will provide the primary content for this episode.

Episode 4: Predator/Prey Relationships

The first seven episodes of this podcast will consist of small discussions that took place during the 2008 National Envirothon competition training day in Flagstaff on July 29, 2008.

The fourth episode in this series focuses on the relationship between predators and their prey with specific examples from Arizona. Sam Huselton, a Department educator, will provide the primary content for this episode.

Episode 5: Monitoring Wildlife Populations

The first seven episodes of this podcast will consist of small discussions that took place during the 2008 National Envirothon competition training day in Flagstaff on July 29, 2008.

The fifth episode in this series focuses on the different techniques that biologists use to track and monitor wildlife populations. Eric Proctor, a Department educator, will provide the primary content for this episode.

Episode 6: Human-Wildlife Conflicts Resulting from Outdoor Recreation

The first seven episodes of this podcast will consist of small discussions that took place during the 2008 National Envirothon competition training day in Flagstaff on July 29, 2008.

The sixth episode in this series focuses the conflicts that occur between wildlife and humans participating in outdoor recreation activities. Sam Huselton, a Department educator, will provide the primary content for this episode.

Episode 7: The North American Model of Wildlife Conservation

The first seven episodes of this podcast will consist of small discussions that took place during the 2008 National Envirothon competition training day in Flagstaff on July 29, 2008.

The seventh episode in this series provides a brief overview of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, focusing on the seven principles that guide this model. Kellie Tharp, a Department educator, will provide the primary content for this episode.

Episode 8: Baby Eagle Biology

James Driscoll, eagle biologist and raptor management coordinator for the Arizona Game and Fish Department, discusses basic biology and provides some interesting facts about nestling bald eagles in the state.
