2015 Governor’s Commission Board Activity
Per Arizona State Statute 17-202 (became effective on July 2010), the Arizona Game and Fish Commission Appointment Recommendation Board shall assist the governor by interviewing, evaluating and recommending candidates for appointment to the Arizona Game and Fish Commission. The Commission Recommendation Board shall recommend at least two, but no more than five, candidates to the governor. The governor must select and appoint a commissioner from the list submitted by the board.
Members of the Commission Appointment Recommendation Board are William “Jim” Lane (chair), Susan E. Chilton, Charles I. Kelly, Phillip D. Townsend, and Richard B. Williams.
Governor Ducey makes appointment to Game and Fish Commission
Governor Doug Ducey on Nov. 27, 2014, appointed Eric Slocum Sparks to the Arizona Game and Fish Commission. He awaits confirmation by the Arizona Senate. Read the news release.
Mr. Sparks appointment was confirmed by the Arizona Senate on Jan. 29, 2016.
Board recommends 3 candidates to governor for upcoming Game and Fish Commission vacancy (Posted Nov. 13, 2014)
PHOENIX — The Arizona Game and Fish Commission Appointment Recommendation Board has forwarded the names of three candidates to the Governor’s Office for consideration in filling the upcoming 2015 vacancy on the Arizona Game and Fish Commission.
John “Doyel” Shamley, Eric Slocum Sparks and James S. Zieler were selected from four candidates who were interviewed by the board at its public meeting on Nov. 10 at the Arizona Game and Fish Department headquarters in Phoenix. The four who were interviewed were chosen from an initial slate of 16 applicants previously considered by the Appointment Recommendation Board at its Oct. 22 public meeting.
Commission Appointment Recommendation Board to interview 6 candidates on Nov. 9
On October 26, 2015, the Arizona Game and Fish Commission Appointment Recommendation Board held a public meeting at the Arizona Game and Fish Department headquarters. During this meeting, the Board decided to interview six candidates for the Governor’s appointment to the Arizona Game and Fish Commission. The interviews will be held beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2015, at the Arizona Game and Fish Department headquarters, 5000 West Carefree Highway, Phoenix, AZ 85086. This meeting is open to the public.
The following six candidates will be invited for an interview: Shannon Breslin, James Goughnour, Peter Groseta, William “Don” Martin, Jennifer McMahon, and Eric Sparks.

PHOENIX — The Arizona Game and Fish Commission Appointment Recommendation Board will meet on Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, beginning at 9 a.m., to review and select for interview applicants for the 2015 vacancy on the Arizona Game and Fish Commission. The meeting will be held at the Arizona Game and Fish Department headquarters at 5000 W. Carefree Highway in Phoenix and is open to the public.
The board is scheduled to meet again on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, beginning at 9 a.m., to conduct interviews with the candidates who were selected at the Oct. 26 meeting. That meeting will also be at 5000 W. Carefree Highway in Phoenix and is open to the public.
