Season opener planned for Northern Arizona Shooting Range

Posted March 30, 2017

More hours, more venues, 3D archery

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Spring has arrived and this weekend kicks off the 2017 shooting season at the Northern Arizona Shooting Range (NASR). The 160 acre range is owned by the Arizona Game and Fish Commission but maintained and operated by the Northern Arizona Shooting Foundation.

Starting April 1st trap, skeet, and sporting clays will operate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There are several registered trap and sporting clay shoots scheduled for this spring and summer with the first event planned for May 20 and 21.

Shooters can sight-in a new rifle or shoot a new pistol on the rifle and pistol ranges. These ranges will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 pm. Friday through Sunday.

If archers are looking for a place to shoot, NASR has a five position archery warm-up area with targets from 10-50 yards.  A 3-D animal target trail with unmarked distances is also available.

NASR Charter member and current President Tom Mackin shares his excitement for the upcoming shooting season.  “I encourage everyone to visit the range and see all of the opportunities for recreational and competitive shooting at our community facility”, Mackin said. “To provide more shooting time for our customers, all venues will have extended hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting May 6.”

2017 membership fees are $35 for an individual and $55 for a family which includes free shooting on the archery and rifle/ pistol ranges and discounts for trap and skeet and sporting clays. Non-members can pay $7 for all-day shooting at any of the ranges plus any clay target costs.  Members are encouraged to attend board meetings to learn more about the range.

Some work has been completed on the roads to the range and more planned for the future.  Visitors to NASR need to keep in mind the posted speed limits and make an effort to keep the dust down.
