AZGFD closes hatcheries in support of forest service closures
PHOENIX — The Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Tonto Creek and Canyon Creek hatcheries located in Tonto National Forest will be closed to the public beginning at 6 a.m., on Wednesday, May 23, until further notice.
The closure was enacted in support of the Tonto National Forest closure, which was prompted by extreme fire conditions. Public safety is AZGFD’s first priority. The current drought conditions, high temperatures and increased fire danger is why the Tonto National Forest is implementing these area closures. Read more.
The hatcheries will continue growing and stocking trout into approved waters that are open to the public.
For changes to stocking locations, please frequently check the AZGFD stocking schedules.
