Cormorant Tracking
In early 2017, the Arizona Game and Fish Department began a study of the state’s two species of cormorants (neotropic and double-crested). The research seeks to identify options for improving aquatic habitats and management practices for cormorants and local fish populations.
As part of that research, AZGFD placed numbered colored tags on the wings of some cormorants in the Phoenix metro area and others will be tagged statewide. Data collected will help biologists to track population movements and connectivity across the landscape.
