A Field Guide to Amphibians and Reptiles in Arizona is the must-have resource for identifying and learning about the state’s herpetofauna. This visually stunning and reader-friendly book features photographs, illustrations and natural history, making it easy to identify the state’s species. Among the 155 species known to be reproducing in Arizona are 25 native and five introduced amphibians and 114 native and 11 introduced reptiles, all of which are included in the book.

The online accompaniment to the book, the website highlights Arizona’s amphibians and reptiles. Featuring photos, range maps, descriptions and calls, users can click through the different types of species to idenitfy what they saw in the field.

Hunting and Fishing Licenses

A fishing license issued by the Arizona Game and Fish Department allows you to pursue, photograph, capture or possess many of Arizona’s amphibians and the introduced Spiny Softshell. A hunting license permits pursuit, photography, capture and possession of most reptiles. Combination hunting and fishing licenses are available. Please review the 2026-2030 Arizona Reptile and Amphibian Regulations.
