White Mountain Grasslands Wildlife Area includes hiking trails to overlooks, and loops around and through juniper woodland, grassland, and ponds.
The White Mountain Grasslands Wildlife Area (WMGWA) property includes: riparian habitat along the Carnero Creek drainage; irrigated pasture; pond and open water habitats; plains grassland habitat on gently rolling hills, knolls and flat terrain; storage rights in Carnero Lake and Wiltbank Reservoir. In addition, there are water rights held in Geneva and Norton Reservoirs and Fish Creek upstream from Wiltbank Reservoir.

Location
o get there, from Eagar, drive west on State Highway 260 approximately five miles to the junction of the road to the Springerville transfer station at milepost 391.4. Follow the paved road north, then west .6 miles to the southwest corner of the first hill. When the road turns north again, take the dirt road to the left for three miles (northwest), to a cattle guard on the fence line boundary. Cross the cattle guard and proceed a short distance to the parking area. Park at designated sites only. The road is suitable for passenger cars.
Plants
At WMGWA, riparian and grassland habitats are mixed with irrigated pasture and open water habitats.
Birds
Common birds in the area include southwestern willow flycatchers, bald eagles, Mexican spotted owls, canyon towhees, Townsend’s solitaires, blue grosbeaks, burrowing owls, mourning doves, red-tailed hawks, American kestrels, Say’s phoebes, western kingbirds, warbling vireos, woodhouse’s scrub-jays, common ravens, horned larks, violet-green swallows, white-breasted nuthatches, western bluebirds, yellow-headed blackbirds, ferruginous hawks, northern harriers, golden eagles.
Mammals
Common mammals include pronghorn, mule deer, elk, coyotes, badgers, striped skunks, gray foxes, rock and golden-mantled squirrels, and cottontail rabbits.

White Mountain Grassland Wildlife Area is managed by AZGFD.
