NEWS RELEASE

June 6, 2025

The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) invites anglers to fish Arizona’s public waters for free on Saturday, June 7.

On this annual “Free Fishing Day,” a fishing license is not required for persons fishing any public waters in our state.

Whether you’re a seasoned angler who wants to introduce a newcomer or family member to the sport, or someone who’s always been interested but never took that next step, this is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and experience what fishing in Arizona is all about.

Fishing already is a bargain. Arizona fishing licenses start at just $37 annually for adult residents (18 and older), and $55 for adult nonresidents. A combination hunt and fish license for resident or nonresident youths (ages 10-17) is only $5. Children under 10 can fish for free.

While a fishing license is not needed June 7 this year, bag limits and other fishing regulations still apply and must be observed on Free Fishing Day.

Of course, once you’re hooked, fishing licenses can be purchased either at the Arizona Game and Fish Department website, a department office, or at an authorized license dealer. The purchase of a fishing license directly contributes to state conservation programs, including fisheries management, habitat protection and fishing education.

Arizona’s Free Fishing Day is celebrated as part of National Fishing and Boating Week
