Deserts of Arizona
In this activity, students will read about the four deserts found in Arizona and complete a word search.
By completing this lesson, your students will be able to:
- Obtain and evaluate information from a nonfiction text about deserts.
- Identify adaptations that animals need to survive in different deserts.
- Complete a word search using new knowledge gained from reading.

They have been aligned to the Arizona academic science standards and can be used to promote three dimensional teaching.
In this activity, students will read an article about the four deserts found in North America and Arizona. Then, they will complete a word search puzzle to assess their understanding of the reading. Finally, with the teacher as a guide, they will discuss adaptations that are necessary for animals to live in the different deserts and what might happen to species moved from one desert to another.
