Outdoor Recreation Business Summit

To educate industry partners on the role of the Wildlife Restoration Act and the programs those funds support to grow the outdoor recreation market place.

business summit

The Arizona Game and Fish Department’s (AZGFD) Outdoor Recreation Business Summit is a  consortium of state and federal wildlife management agencies, industry representatives and conservation partners.

The association was developed in 2010 to cultivate relationships that are critical to continued funding for conservation efforts through the collection of federal excise taxes. This collaboration meets biannually to foster and enhance these relationships, discuss important legal and legislative issues, and share ideas on how the partners can better work together to ensure the future of outdoor recreation in Arizona.

Fact: Like most state wildlife management agencies, AZGFD receives no general fund tax dollars. The majority of funding to manage more than 800 native wildlife species comes from Arizona’s hunters and anglers who purchase hunting and fishing licenses, as well as federal grants administered by the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife and Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish restoration acts. These acts allow for the collection of excise taxes on the sales of firearms, ammunition, bowhunting equipment, fishing tackle, and more to fund conservation efforts throughout the U.S.

AZGFD will host the next Outdoor Recreation Business Summit from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 12, 2024, at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility’s OneAZ Credit Union Pavilion, 5060 W. Skeet St., in Phoenix. Register here. The event is free. Lunch will be provided.
